Man City and Arsenal won again over the weekend to keep at the top of their respective leagues. Both teams won away fixtures 3-0 against Wolves and Norwich respectively.

Stephy Mavididi scored all three of Arsenal’s goals including a penalty to take his tally for the season to 7 from the first four games, he has now surpassed his tally for last season where he scored 5 in 17 games. There have been reports that even though he is still only 16 that he had trained with Arsenal’s first team earlier this month. If he continues the goal scoring form it will surely be sooner rather than later that he appears for Arsenal. An outside shout for an appearance on the bench against Southampton in the Carling Cup could be an interesting one to watch out for.

Elsewhere Jamie Thomas scored a brace for Bolton as they won 3-1 away at Newcastle. Thomas scored four against Blackburn before the international break and he now sits top of the goalscorers for the North Division.

Demetri Mitchell continued his goal scoring form and continues to be Man Utd’s only scorer at this level so far this season with the only goal in a 1-0 win at home to Stoke City. Mitchell followed up his goal on international duty to take his tally to 4 for the season.

Southampton remain the only team in the Southern Division without a win so far as they lost 2-1 at home to Leicester which included Southampton failing to take the lead at 0-0 from the penalty spot with the penalty being blazed over the bar. The penalty and the goals from the game are available here:

The league once again proved that they like high scoring games; down in the South Division Tottenham v West Brom and Chelsea v West Ham both drew 2-2 whilst in the North Division Derby gained their first win of the season with a thumping 5-1 victory away at Everton. With this being Derby’s first year at this level due to their recent Category 1 status award I’m sure they will be chuffed with that result. Another high scoring game in the North Division saw Middlesbrough beat Liverpool 3-2. Will Marsh took his tally to 3 for the season for Liverpool.

Elsewhere I didn’t end up missing the Blackburn v Sunderland game……as it never took place due to an accident on the roads Sunderland couldn’t make it to the game so it was called off to be re-arranged for some point in the future.

UEFA Youth League
This week sees the start of the second season of the UEFA Youth League. This mirrors the Champions League groups so for the English teams this sees our teams facing:

Group B: Real Madrid CF (ESP), FC Basel 1893 (SUI), Liverpool FC (ENG), PFC Ludogorets Razgrad (BUL)

Group D: Arsenal FC (ENG), Borussia Dortmund (GER), Galatasaray AŞ (TUR), RSC Anderlecht (BEL)

Group E: FC Bayern München (GER), Manchester City FC (ENG), PFC CSKA Moskva (RUS), AS Roma (ITA)

Group G: Chelsea FC (ENG), FC Schalke 04 (GER), Sporting Clube de Portugal (POR), NK Maribor (SVN)

Barcelona won last year’s tournament with a 3-0 win in the final against Benfica. There are only slight differences to the Champions League with that the knock out rounds (apart from the semi finals) are just one off games and that if scores are level in the knock out rounds it goes straight to penalties with no extra time.

This is an U19 league so there will be a few different players than those seen in the Barclays Premier League.

At the time Liverpool are the only ones to have played with the remaining three fixtures taking place on Wednesday 17th. Liverpool were 4-0 winners at home to Ludogorets. Jerome Sinclair getting a brace for Liverpool. Jerome is currently Liverpool’s youngest ever player having made his debut in 2012 in the Carling Cup when he was just 16 years and 6 days old.
